Vision Problem Headache

Your Headaches Might Be a Sign of a Vision Problem

Did you know that frequent headaches could be a sign of an uncorrected vision problem. You may not think that your eyes have any relation to your head, but that isn’t true. In fact, the connection between the two is significant, which is why it is always important to pay attention to headaches as a symptom of a vision problem.

Eye Strain and Headaches

Many of us spend almost half our days looking at screens, which has caused a spike in people experiencing what is called digital eye strain. Symptoms of this usually include blurred vision, tired and aching eyes, difficulty focusing, and of course frequent headaches.

Though eye strain usually comes from looking at screens, this is not always the case. Vision problems like hyperopia (farsightedness), presbyopia (age-related farsightedness), or astigmatism, cause strain on the eye. When the lens of the eye attempt to focus but cannot (due to images focusing a bit behind the retina instead of right against it), images appear blurry. This means that trying to read small print or focusing too hard on things close-by can lead to headaches, as your eyes try to compensate for the poor vision.

Corrective Vision

Corrective lenses will focus images and reduce your eye strain, therefore reducing the amount of headaches related to vision problems. Thankfully, corrective lenses in the form of glasses or contacts are easy to get. Simply visit your optometrist and they will take you through a quick and easy eye exam.

Regular eye exams are essential in detecting and diagnosing sight-threatening conditions early on. This means that if you receive an eye exam before you start experiencing symptoms of poor vision, you can put a stop to those symptoms before they even appear.

Taking care of your eye health is just as important as taking care of the health of any other part of your body. Don’t underestimate how necessary proper vision is in your life.
